Up, up and away! Yesterday I was 1/2 in finding o Up, up and away! Yesterday I was 1/2 in finding owlets and 0/2 in finding adult barred owls so unfortunately this likely marks my end of being able to regularly document this family. The trees have exploded with leaves creating a canopy of protection for these owls from their predators (and photographers!) I still have many images to go through but I've tried to always post a timely/current image documenting the growth of the owlets. Both have successfully fledged from the nest and are well on their way to become silent hunters just like their parents. A few blocks away, two adult barred owls were hit by cars within the past 6 weeks so hopefully these two little ones can expand successfully into that territory. Mother Nature is harsh but at the same time can be amazing to watch. As of Saturday, both barred owlets have branched! As of Saturday, both barred owlets have branched! In the coming days, they will learn to fly and then just like little kids, they will be all over the place and harder to find haha. I got to witness this intimate moment between mom and baby. She landed on the branch near baby and began to preen and pluck its feathers - presumably so it would only have its flight feathers for the important coming days.
