Fire and Ice, North Shore, Minnesota

Extreme cold air conditions over Lake Superior create a natural phenomenon known as “sea smoke” — this particular morning had wind chill values of -40ºF creating mysterious conditions. Textured layers of ice stretch over the rocky shore, showcasing stunning natural patterns and hues of blue and white. The surface is cracked and rippled, like a frozen wave in time.
